Review: This review may be a little off topic on this site, however, I felt compelled to write it. I had a gift certificate for D&R Market, a small grocery store specializing in fruit and meat. Now, I’ve been there before, but it’s been a long time. I never seem to find the time to get all the way over there.
Yesterday I was cleaning out my purse and found a gift certificate for D&R that I forgot I had. Unfortunately, it expired January 30, 2010, just a few days prior. I took it, and was about to throw it away, when I thought I ought to just call because it was for $50 and I didnt’ want to throw someone’s $50 in the trash.
So I called them up and asked if I could still use it, and they said absolutely, they would still honor that gift certificate. So off we went.
It’s located across the street from Lowe’s near the Pizza King there, very easy to find. It’s just a small spot in the strip mall. The grocery is small, but well stocked with lots of people working. I was told to look at their cheese fridge, so that’s where I went first. Loads of cheese, including cheese from the Fair Oaks Dairy. Other cheeses too. It was hard to pick, but I managed to select a few.
At this point, I’d already been greeted by two employees. I wandered over to the meat counter to look through what they had. I have meat in my freezer, so it really wasn’t a big need, but I was immediately offered assistance. I asked the guy what he would recommend, what was best. And he immediately launched into a description of what he thought was best. I loved it! One of my biggest pet peeves is asking someone what’s good and they don’t know. (Note to servers in restaurants: always try the food so you can make recommendations.) I ended up picking up some pork chops. Then I went to the freezer section and got some pork burgers for my husband. I’m not sure if there’s anywhere else in town where you can buy pork burgers.
I was also happy to see a very nice wine collection in stock, as well as very well stocked fruit and vegetable cooler.
Overall, I was thrilled with my experience at D&R and I will definitely go back. They didn’t have to honor my gift certificate, but they did. And I commend them for that. I can’t wait to bust into the cheese I bought and the service was excellent. I recommend everyone make an effort to stop in.
Kid friendly: Of course, it’s a grocery store, but they went out of their way to speak to my daughter and offer her stickers.
