Greater Lafayette is blessed with an abundance of local places to get a good diner breakfast. But my go-to spots are closed on Mondays, so when I decided I’d rather take my kids out for breakfast on Presidents’ Day, I had to look for somewhere new. The Country Cafe fit the bill.
We got there around 8:30 AM on a Monday, so it wasn’t very crowded. We picked a booth and were quickly greeted by our server. The menu is pretty expansive, so it took me a little bit to decide what I wanted. In the meantime, my kids were happy to watch one of the several large TVs in the dining area.
I ended up ordering the Sunrise Breakfast with biscuits and gravy. I’m well-known for my B&G love, and it’s hard to pass up. I was not disappointed with The Country Cafe’s offering. The biscuits were thick and soft. They felt the slightest bit under done, which is exactly what I want. The gravy was good, although a bit salty. It wasn’t too much salt, but it is more than I’m used to. The over easy eggs were, according to my notes, “exactly over easy”, and the toast and bacon were fine.

My kids both ordered pancakes, which came out very fluffy. The Country Cafe has a variety of fruit toppings available, too.

The staff did an excellent job. My coffee cup was never in danger of being empty. When my son ordered his pancakes, he was a little too shy, so he got the fruit and sausage without the pancakes. Our server got another order of pancakes put in right away and they were out before the first round was gone.
