Let’s not dance around the elephant in the room. This location seems cursed. In conjunction with announcing the opening of the new Lenehan’s Pub, Hayleigh Colombo, writing for the Lafayette Journal & Courier had a story listing previous efforts recently at this location. Lenehan’s is at the location previously occupied by the Cajun Connection (2003), Scagnoli’s (2008), La Salsa (2011), and D.T. Kirby’s – Family (2012). I have no idea what Lenehan’s business model is such that it will fare better than those other restaurants, but we can hope. (Update: Lenahan’s has gone out of business. 3/5/2015)
I went there for lunch, and the interior still needs some work. There are bar tables and booths of various kinds along with TVs and video games. It was a lunch crowd, so maybe that wasn’t the ideal time to check out a pub, but there was an empty feel about it. That space has generally had that problem with the other restaurants, so it must be a tough space to work with.
But, enough with my gloom and doom. The positives: the service was outstanding and friendly; and the nachos (health lunch choice, I know!) were delicious. The chips and queso are apparently home made. The chips in particular had a nice light, crunchy, well salted quality to them. My co-worker had a turkey burger that came out hot and juicy and was reportedly good. The rest of the menu had a fairly typical pub offering – burgers, nachos, and sandwiches of various kinds. In addition, they had several kinds of tacos on offer – including chorizo con huevos which I’ll have to try next time I’m there. Prices were mainly in the $7.50 – $10.00 range.
I have learned not to get too attached to restaurants at this site, but I’m pulling for Lenehan’s. The people seem nice and the food is good.
