My first thought upon walking into Mama Ines was, “How have I never been here before?”
(The answer is Sagamore Parkway Construction. But anyway.)
Oh my goodness, it was like walking into heaven. Walls of lit up glass cases with the most beautiful display of baked goods I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t been, Mama Ines is a Mexican Bakery in the location of the old Ryan’s. You can’t tell from walking in there though. It’s beautiful. It’s clean, it’s clear, it’s just really a lovely place to walk into. When you walk in, there’s an area where you can pick up a platter and some tongs, and you just walk around, from case to case, choosing your sweets. I could have window shopped all day.
In addition to desserts, you can get bread, pastries, donuts, and even tamales, mole, and burritos. I ended up walking out with tamales and burritos for dinner as well as dessert. And for my family of four, that cost me $15. A BARGAIN!
The burritos and tamales were excellent, the desserts (of which I conservatively only got a handful) were delicious. The place was beautiful and immaculate.
So here is what I will say to you now. Yes, Sagamore Parkway is a disaster to try to travel on. But do it anyway and go, go now, and get some baked goods. They are amazing.
And good news, if you don’t want to fight the construction, they just opened a south side location!
