Post image for Parthenon

by Lafayette Eats on February 17, 2014

After eating at the Parthenon yet again, it has come to my attention that this review was really in need of a revamp. I haven’t revisited it since the Parthenon moved from Chauncey Mall, and as it’s become one of my favorite places, I figured it deserved another look. The new location is way out west on Sagamore Parkway, in a strip mall near the Wings Etc and Snap Fitness. Plenty of parking and it’s really a nice area.

The inside is big. It’s one big room and when you walk in, there’s a corridor to walk down to the counter. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table.

The menu has a lot of options, and it occurs to me that I really need to branch out in my choices here because all I ever get are gyros. I haven’t even tried the Saganaki and I really do love Saganaki. I have a standard order of gyros and Greek fries. If you haven’t tried the Greek fries, then you simply must. Seasoned fries with feta on top. Mmmmm.

I’m definitely a fan of the Parthenon in this new location. The gyros are very good. However, I will have to say that I think Captain Gyros has a better tzatziki sauce. But parking is difficult at times by Captain Gyros and it has limited seating, so on the whole I tend to go to Parthenon more often.

Kid friendly: Yes. My kids love it. They have a kid’s menu with junior gyros, or for the less adventurous, chicken fingers

Methods of payment: Cash or credit.

After 30 years in business, it appears that the Parthenon is now closed. I live nearby, and the sign has been taken down. :( A very sad day indeed.

The Parthenon has relocated to a new strip mall out 52W, on the right, just before Menard’s. The atmosphere is more fast food but they seem to have a lot of the same menu items. Some things have been renamed so I had to ask about my favorite (chicken kebob gyro – now called Chicken Village sandwich). I’ve heard that Parthenon regulars aren’t happy with the change but it’s much more convenient for me and my food tasted about the same as it’s always tasted.

Good to know! Thanks Gale!

I will NEVER eat at Captain Gyro’s after my first and only time being treated like a liar. Also, they’re too greasy anyway. The Parthenon had better be good in order for me to justify driving way out to the new baneful zone. Akropolis in Lafayette is still number one in my heart, but I’ll try any place at least once. Looking forward to giving the “new” Parthenon a shot.
