I heard there was a new Cajun place in town not too long ago. We get them, and they tend to close down fairly quickly. I’m not sure why, either we Lafayette/West Lafayette residents aren’t big Cajun aficionados or else the restaurants just weren’t very good. Either way, I hope this one sticks around awhile.
The location is in Pavillion’s mall, right next to the Camille’s there. I think there used to be a BBQ place there previously. It’s not a big restaurant. You go in and order at the counter, either for eat in or take out, and then there are a few tables for eating in.
We were greeted by an exceptionally friendly person. I asked what they had for kids, and she pointed out the kids menu but also offered us samples so we could decide what we wanted. The kids tried the Jambalaya and wanted that rather than a kid’s meal. She informed me then that kids could get a small bowl of whatever dish they wanted, and it would come with a drink and a side for $4.00. We ordered and paid, and they took our name and we sat down. They call your name when your order is ready and you pick it up at a window.
The kids ordered that, and they got their bowl of Jambalaya, a bag of Cheez-Its, a drink, and a fruit snack. All for $4. That was one heck of a deal!
I ordered the Drunken Chicken and my husband ordered the Red Beans and Rice. I really liked the Drunken Chicken, it was tasty with just enough spiciness, but not too much spiciness. I tasted the Jambalaya and the Red Beans and Rice as well. They were okay, but not as good as the Drunken Chicken. The big bowls of rice came with a giant piece of garlic bread too.
They offer a variety of other rice dishes including Gumbo and Bourbon Chicken, and Po’Boys, appetizers and desserts too. See their menu online here.
The place, while small, was really very clean and the people who worked there were super nice. And I don’t even use the word super much. They were nice. The girl who took our order was nice. Another women who was wandering around straightening up chatted with us. While we were eating another guy came around with bead necklaces for the kids and yet another guy came over to ask us if everything was okay. I was really thoroughly impressed with their friendliness of the staff at this place.
Definitely, I would go again. Two thumbs up!
