Review: After hearing about it for a while, I finally made it over to the Hawaiian Hut tonight. It’s located on the levee, in the strip at the corner of 26 and 231. Hard to get to in terms of parking, but they do have a garage you can park in once you figure out how to get into it.
I was shocked when I went into this little restaurant. I did not expect it to be so nice! It was lovely, with a waterfall, big ceiling fans, lots of neat tables and tiki bars. It was also completely dead. We were like the third couple there, and this was a Saturday night. I hope they got busier later, because it wasn’t busy when we were there.
You order at the counter and there is a big overhead menu. The cashier was very helpful, explaining that the overhead menu didn’t have a few of their entrées and even making a few recommendations. I love it when they make recommendations. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I’m in a restaurant and I asked the server what’s good and they don’t know. If you work there, you should know what’s good or have an opinion somewhat. If you don’t know, it makes me wonder what they are doing to the food.
I ordered the Teri Chicken and my husband ordered the pork. It came with a side of white or brown rice (I chose brown) and a side of pineapple. The chicken was pretty tasty. The rice was fairly bland (as plain rice tends to be). I did sneak a few bites of the pork, and it was delicious.
They also offer a variety of smoothies, soups, salads and desserts, although I didn’t try any of those. I can see how the price could get pretty high if you add a bunch of those. I thought the atmosphere was nice and the food was good and I’m sure I’ll go again.
Their menu is available on their website, but be warned that there is music that starts automatically with no shut off I could find. (I hate that. Music on a website that isn’t about music, just a bad idea. Especially if you don’t give me an off button.)
Kid friendly: Children’s menu was just smaller portions of the adult menu. My kids would be happy with just eating rice and pineapple.
Price Range: $6.95-8.95 for a small meal, $9.75- for a large
