Review: I had the pleasure of stopping by Little Mexico 2 today. It’s located in a strip mall at the corner of Earl and South Streets. I’ve eaten at Little Mexico before, but it’s been a while, so I definitely needed to go again before writing a review. It’s a smaller restaurant, with lots of standard Mexican decor.  I was immediately taken to a nice booth and had chips and salsa on my table before I even sat down. (That’s not a joke. They were on the ball.)

The chips and salsa were really good, and that’s a general barometer of Mexican dining for me – must have good salsa. The chips were warm too, which is nice. The waiter arrived quickly and took my drink order and gave me a little time with the menu.

When evaluating a menu, I try to look for house specialities or favorites, because I tend to think those are their best choices. One of the options I saw was the taquito special, which came with one beef and one chicken taquito. It came with rice, but I had to order beans on the side, because I really love refried beans. Another gauge of good Mexican food – must have good beans.

After I placed my order, I proceeded to munch on chips and salsa, but before I could barely get a chance my food was ready and at my table. Okay, maybe not that fast, but I rarely get my food before we polish off a basket of chips. It was really fast.

The beans were good, but I have to say that I was really disappointed in the taquitos. I normally like taquitos, but these had a funny taste that I just couldn’t get past. I tried, I really tried to eat the taquitos, but they just didn’t taste good. However, I do need to add that the rice was extraordinarily good, and I am  not generally a fan of Spanish style rice. I always try it, and usually don’t like it, but the rice here was really excellent. I ate it all.

I’ll definitely go back and try something else. I thought the service and speed was excellent and I think it deserves another go. It’s entirely possible that I just didn’t like that one item, but another item may be awesome.

Kid friendly: Yes

Price Range: $4.50 to $6.50 for lunch, prices go up to $12.50 for fajitas

Methods of payment: Cash and Credit.

I love LM2! Like you said, the service is fast, the chips and salsa are the best in town… it’s a great, affordable place to eat. Next time try the Burrito Special with chicken. You won’t be sorry. Fresh tasting, and delicious. If you’re in to guacamole, theirs is great, too, btw.

We love LMII and used to go every Sunday until I got pregnant and then Mexican was not my thing. IMO, they have the best chips and salsa and the salsa is made fresh as it sometimes is a little hotter depending on who’s in the kitchen. I like their chimichanga which you can get fried or soft and I always get the lunch version, even at dinner time, because it’s enough and it comes with both rice and beans. I also like their taco salad. My hubby gets their steak fajitas and likes them. And the kiddos are good with chicken nuggets and their hard and soft tacos. They do have ground beef and will substitute as that is how I get my chimi most of the time. Very accomodating and family friendly. Our family of four eats there for around $15 (lunch) to $20 (dinner) and that includes drinks for 3.

LM2 – My favorite Mexican Restaurant!!
I have lived in Lafayette for 11 years, and I wish I could go more often. The service is great, their food is excellent and they always make you feel welcome. My kids and mother love them too, and when I go by myself, the owners always ask about them and send them greetings. You can’t top that. My best wishes to the Bravo family on their new location, soon to open on Sagamore Parkway.

Really? I think this is about the worst Mexican restaurant I’ve ever tried. I ordered fish tacos, which were overly salty, and otherwise flavorless, the burritos, which everyone else ordered, were mushy and the chips and salsa were terrible. Plus, the “margaritas” were made with wine and NEON green. What’s that about? No one at our table of 4 liked his or her meal. Yes, it’s cheap, but it’s not good eats!

If you get a chance to go back, (really, try it again!) I would recommend the Shrimp Quesadillas. Seriously the best thing I’ve ever had there, every time we go I say I’ll try something new and I gravitate back to the Quesadillas de Camaron.
