Review:  A reader recently send an inquiry requesting I review AJ’s Burgers and Beef, and I aim to please! Tonight we headed over to the west side to try them out. It’s a small little shop just around the corner from the Silver Dipper, a place I spend entirely way too much time.

The restaurant is small with a few tables and chairs, a couple of small booths, and a long wall bench with high stools. You order at the counter and then they call you when the food is ready. It is small, but very clean and orderly. When we went, they were completely empty. Apparently, they have a delivery service which is available for online ordering. (They do not deliver to my area on the south side, I’m afraid.)

The menu is small, a variety of dogs, burgers, and chicken. Deep fried seems to be the order of the day. Our table ordered a range from a plain hot dog and hamburger to an Italian Sausage and a garlic cheeseburger. They offer waffle fries and regular fries. If you are looking for health food (or anything resembling a vegetable) – look elsewhere.

Mainly, my impression was just “Eh.” It was okay, but nothing special. I can’t see myself deciding to go there again. The bread for all the food was enormous, making everything too big for your mouth. The fries were a deep fried variety, very crispy but practically coated in something. The hamburgers didn’t make anyone at our table all that excited. A very mediocre visit.

And to make things worse, they only offer Pepsi products, and no, Diet Pepsi is not the same as Diet Coke.

Kid friendly: Yes.

Price Range: $3 – $7 for sandwiches

Methods of payment: Cash and Credit.

Thanks for reviewing it! That’s too bad it didn’t end up being the greatest :-(

We didn’t like this place at all. Of course once you have had 5 Guys burgers in Indy, every other burger falls short.

AJ’s is probably some of the most original food choices that Lafayette has seen for some time. Not only do they bring the taste of Chicago to a campus starved for variety, the option to get that same food delivered late into the night is a huge benefit to the students on campus. All in all something I definitely recommend everyone try once.

My sentiments are similar to James. I love AJ’s because it reminds me of being at home in Chicago with its skyline mural and Chicago sports bias. It’s also hard for me to knock a place that will sell me an italian sausage inside an italian beef sandwich in the middle of the night.

Since opening they have added/refined a lot of their menu items. Hands down the most juicy, non-greasy burger in the area. And how can you not love their fries!

I think the food in this place has gone downhill over the past year. When they first started, the food was great. Now I would rather spend my money at a place that actually has good food. In addition to the poor food quality, their manager is less than kind to any customer. I am not going to go to this place anymore because he is less than kind to his customers.

I really like this place. It is one of the few places around here with authentic Chicago style food. I visit this place often and the staff is always helpful and pleasant. They have lowered their prices from previous years, have a huge delivery range (Lafayette and WL), and seem to always be open. I highly recommend the Italian Beef and Chicken Bacon Ranch.
