Review: A while back, when I reviewed Maru Sushi, I noticed across the street a couple of restaurants I hadn’t been to, one of which being Fiesta Mexican Grill. I am a sucker for Mexican food, so I put it on my list of places to visit. Today I finally got the chance to go and am so glad I did.
I had no idea what to expect when I went here, but was happy to see a lovely dining area. Clean, well decorated, lots of tables. This is another cafeteria style Mexican place, much like Chipotle or Moe’s. Actually, it’s nothing like them because I cannot tell you how excited I was when I walked in and saw them rolling out and cooking fresh tortillas right there. FRESH TORTILLAS. Yes, that really does deserve all caps.
The menu is not expansive. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and salads pretty much cover it. Everything seems to be a la carte, or else comes with some rice. Meat choices include shredded beef, chicken or pork as well as grilled steak and grilled chicken. No ground beef.
I ordered a grilled chicken burrito, and opted to get it “Enchilada Style” (for free) and topped with green chile. It was enormous. And delicious. Really very good, I was happy with my meal. My son ordered a grilled chicken taco, and they took a fresh tortilla, threw it on the grill, and topped it with cheese to melt before putting on the grilled chicken. Then topped it with some lettuce and tomato. I was jealous of this taco, and my 5 year old could not eat it fast enough.
The salsas I tried were both very good, however I would say I’ve had better chips. Good, but not my personal favorite. The salsa, though, was very flavorful! (And chips and salsa don’t come with your meal, you have to pay extra for it.)
The food is served in foil to-go boxes, so if you want to take it home, you just grab a lid and cover it. Clearly this place is set up to service lunching Purdue students and faculty who may need to eat and run. Nothing fancy, plastic forks, spoons, knifes and fountain soda. But nevertheless, a great meal I enjoyed in a quite nice restaurant. I would definitely go again.
Kid friendly: Yes, but there is no children’s menu.
Methods of payment: Cash or credit.
Price Range: Tacos starting at $3.25 for one, upwards of $6 or $7 for burritos.
