Review: The Lafayette Brewing Company is a casual-to-nice restaurant in the eastern part of downtown Lafayette. The burgers are good and, as the name suggests, they brew their own beer. They have some fine root beer as well.
As someone who works downtown, it is one of my primary choices for eating at lunch time. As I mentioned, the burger is the stand-by for me. But, they have wraps, a killer cheddar-ale soup, and a variety of other menu items.
I have never had the beer on tap at the location, opting for the root beer instead during work hours. However, they have recently started distributing their beer in bottles to local liquor stores. I wasn’t personally very keen on the Tippecanoe Common Ale, but for my tastes, their Black Angus Oatmeal Stout was outstanding.
The service is usually reasonably quick and competent. During the afternoon, there are usually plenty of tables in the back which makes it a good place to have a business lunch meeting. They have music acts on Friday and Saturday nights and a calendar page to advise patrons of upcoming events.
The Lafayette Brewing Company is a solid local institution, and I would be comfortable recommending it to anybody.
Kid friendly: Sure. It’s a bar and a brewery, but if that isn’t a hang up for you, they have a kids menu, and the atmosphere is friendly enough.
Methods of payment: Cash or credit.
Price Range: Between $5 and $10 for sandwiches, and between $10 and $20 for entreés.

I sampled several of their beers: the Common Ale, Piper’s Pride, Wit, and Stout. The Wit was a little weak, reminded me of commercial light beer. I didn’t care for the Common Ale – I didn’t find it well balanced, though I know it’s a drinkable favorite of many regulars. Piper’s Pride was better, but the stout really stood out for me. I think it could hold its own against some of the country’s top-quality microbrews.
Good brews (and better food than at Chumley’s)! Always a favorite!
I’m a semi regular at the Brew Co. The food is delicious although they took a few things off the menu a while back. They brew their own beer and have a varied selection. One thing though if you are trying to get dinner in before a show or some other appointment on a weekend night then go somewhere else. They don’t accept reservations. And they only serve beer and wine. I have managed and worked at several restaurants in my time so I notice things that other customers don’t. They just aren’t equipped for a full house on a busy night. I have a suspicion that the kitchen is understaffed or under equipped because although my food is hot when I get it it takes forever some nights to get anything. So if you must go there on Friday or Saturday night go early and request to not be seated near the server stations. The constant beeping from the outdated computer systems (no wonder it takes forever to get food!) will drive you up a wall. They regularly run out of silverware even though I see the hosts rolling it all night when I walk in (unprofessional). Just order more silverware, you can afford it, I promise! The Servers are lined up waiting to use the only two ordering stations all night. Some waiting is normal but when the line is three people deep there is a problem. In a restaurant this size they should have at least one more ordering point. And the ordering system should be from from later than 1990. They might was well still be using paper tickets. The servers are acceptable they try very hard with what they have. But they could stand to be friendlier. Vanessa is the only one most nights that can be bothered to spare an unprompted smile for you. And don’t get me started on “Grumpy”, if you aren’t a people person why do you work as a server? In short its a really nice place to hang out or grab a lunch. But don’t try to make a night out on the town there.
My mom and I were so excited to try Brew restaurant cause people said it was good. So we were out christmas shopping and thought we would stop there to eat. All we had were their lunch salads. I swear we eat and not even 10 minutes after we had left we were both so so sick. And sick the whole rest of the day and night. I called and told the worker and he said I will have the manager call you back and the manager never called. I don’t know if it was the meat or what it was but we both went straight home. We will never eat there again and no one in my family will either. They seen how sick we were.
