Review: Julie’s Ranch House is situated in a small strip mall on 350 South, near the Lafayette Bank & Trust. We found it by random drive by, and decided to check it out. The restaurant is small, but very clean. (There’s nothing I hate more than a dirty floor in a restaurant.) Plenty of tables, and I’ve never had to wait.
The servers are friendly. The menu mostly includes American or Tex Mex fare. Traditional breakfasts and omelets, steak and potatoes, and tacos, burritos, enchiladas. If you are looking for health food, this is not your place.
I’ve dined here a few times over the past few years. The best part of the experience is that Julie, the proprietor of Julie’s Ranch House, comes to your table after your food arrives to see if everything is okay and to chit chat. I love that.
On to the food. Well, it’s just okay. There’s nothing I’ve tried on the menu that has stuck out as spectacular. I’ve never had anything bad, but it wasn’t fantastic. The tortilla chips, which I think are made there, are really quite good, but the salsa isn’t exceptional. Like I said, it’s okay.
The salad bar is okay, if you like iceberg lettuce. I prefer a greener, leafier lettuce in my salad, so I wasn’t impressed. The kids’ menu includes mickey mouse pancakes, grilled cheese, chicken tenders – standard kids’ menu fare. Today I ordered the chicken fajitas salad – which is just a taco salad with chicken. The chicken in the salad was great, but the rest of the salad was mostly iceberg lettuce.
Overall, I’d go again. The atmosphere, friendly service, and meet and greet with Julie are great, and the food is okay. I’ve never tried any, but I hear the desserts are excellent.
