Review: The bane of every parent’s existence is the over-stimulation circus that is Chuck E. Cheese. I won’t lie and say that I go in there without expectations or with anything other than trepidation.
Today we took the kids there for lunch. It was a Sunday, and I was expecting a riot with birthday parties and kids everywhere, and it really wasn’t too bad as far as busy goes. We ordered our food and got our table and distributed tokens. The children played happily and I worked on my grocery list.
Chuck E. Cheese has a hand stamp program where they stamp all of a family’s hands with the same code so that no one can leave with the wrong kid. I think the idea is a good one, I’m just not convinced that they are pulling it off properly. I’ve been to there before and had to wait for someone to come check us out – and it’s not like the magnetic barricade is going to stop a perpetrator from getting away. Anyway, my kids are still fairly young, so I tend to keep a close eye on them.
As for the food, I’ll give a thumbs up to the salad bar, which is loaded with lots of fresh veggies. Definitely aimed at the parental attendees. The pizza is mediocre at best. Today it was better than we’ve had in the past, but still very greasy and thick. The breadsticks are plain abysmal.
If you want to go to Chuck E. Cheese’s with the kids, here is my recommendation. They open early in the morning. Pick a weekday, like a Tuesday, and head on over at 9 AM. Get some tokens, bring a magazine, and order some cinnamon bread sticks and coffee. The kids can run around and play without having to worry too much (because you pretty much get the place to yourself that early) and it’s not so loud without every machine going at once. Double bonus – you don’t have to fight anyone for skee ball.
Kid friendly: Yes
Menu Recommendation: Stick with the salad bar!

the ‘food’ here is so blindingly awful that this place is best approached as a once a year bataan death march rite of passage for prepubescent birthday joy, and nothing else!!
it is a complete mystery how a business that serves food for a living can transform pizza into something unrecognizably disgusting.
it’s pizza, after all, the only food that’s inherently delicious by nature and nurture. microwave pizza tastes better than chuck e cheese. pizza you left in your car in july for a weekend would cause less dry heaving. if pringles came out with pizza stuffed in a can, it’d be vastly superior to Chuck e Cheese ‘pizza’. back when mcdonalds trialed pizza on their test market menus in the chicago area…. well, that tasted comparable, so nevermind them!
Don’t destroy the impressionable palates of the next generation!! feed them beforehand & only order them sugary, caffeinated drinks for your young victims the next time you are forced to endure this mockery of a dining establishment.
if you have already foisted this culinary atrocity on your helpless young children, take ‘em to eduardos in chicago to undo the damage you may have done. only you can teach your children to be wise in the ways of outstanding, non tourist quality pizza.
alas, to even mention eduardos in a review of CeC is probably a death penalty worthy offense…. good thing i wrote this under an alias!!
Alas, I am the one who makes the pizza. I would just like to say that this is my own personal opinion and in no way am I speaking on behalf of CEC Entertainment or its affiliates. The pizza is terrible. I don’t enjoy eating the pizza in anyway, shape, or form. However, the platters, suck as our veggie or sampler, are actually quite spectacular. And the toppings on the pizzas that are fresh produce is good as well. CEC Corporate, which I again am not speaking for, has heard the cries of the parents and is re doing the way we do pizza. I hope that once the changes have taken place you’ll come try it out.
I worked at the Chuck E. Cheese’s here in Lafayette for 2 years. I loved the pizza, everyday…I’d say that it definitely isn’t worth the price but it doesn’t taste like cardboard as many have said. Also the buffalo wings are quite delicious!
